Explore Mukteshwar
Whatever time of the year – spring, summer, monsoon or winter – each season brings its unique beauty and magic, inviting the Explore Mukteshwar Dharohar guest to experience the mountains in its myriad forms.
There is no time like Spring
The ground frost is thawing and the days are warming up. The fruit trees which were all bare in winter, are in bloom – pink and white – and signs of life can be seen in the tender green shoots and early flowers. The sky is gloriously blue and the mighty Himalayan peaks are in full glory. Lucky guests may even experience a late snowfall in February and March. The petals of the brightly red buransh (rhododendron) flowers have fallen forming a red carpet on the ground..
Summer in the mountains
The orchard is laden with fruit and by May-June, the apricots, plums and peaches are ready to pluck. Pears and apples follow by July-August. Our guests can relish these juicy, seasonal fruits, all grown organically. Trees and shrubs are filled with wild berries – kafal, hisalu and mulberry and flowers are a riot of colours. Wake up to bird song and listen to the sound of the cicadas as the sun sets!
The spell of the Monsoons
Whether it is a light rain or a pouring torrent, some of our guests find monsoons the most beautiful season of the mountains. Those three months of the year when the parched hills are soaked, springs rejuvenate and the forests and fields are bathed in green. Forest walks are filled with little delights – a gurgling stream that breaks out of nowhere, exquisite wild flowers and multi-coloured mushrooms.
Blue skies and snow peaks of Winter
Even as life on the ground is waning with frost and occasional snow fall, winter is the time for the Himalayan range to reveal itself in its full glory set against the clear, blue skies. Dharohar is perfectly located to give a wide angle view of some of the highest peaks in the world comprising the Garhwal, Kumaon and even parts of the Nepal Himalayas. When the first rays of the sun hits the snow peaks in the morning and when the colours change against the setting sun, the sight of the towering peaks of Nandadevi, Trishul, and the Panchachuli group is truly spectacular. Let your spirits touch the venerated mountains of Kedarnath and Neelkanth. On a clear day, spot the peaks of Api and Nampa of the Nepalese Himalayas in the eastern end of the ranges. These and many more such awe inspiring mountains dot the northern horizon. The buransh (rhododendron) tree has begun to bloom by late January and you cannot miss the patches of bright red against the dark green leaves. And as the sun sets, enjoy the cold, crisp winter night sitting around the warmth of the bonfire, looking at the stars above and the twinkling lights of the mountain homes.Summer
